Frequently asked questions about Winter Blankets

From when winter horse blankets?

As soon as the temperatures drop sharply, it is recommended to put a blanket on the clipped four-legged friend or on older and sensitive horses. Horses that have a weakened immune system due to illness should also be covered. At the beginning of the cool season, it is sufficient to use a blanket with about 50 g or 100 g overnight. As soon as cold temperatures prevail around the clock, the horse should be covered throughout the day. Depending on the degree of cold, winter horse blankets can be selected between 100 g and 400 g fillings.

Which winter horse blanket?

Which winter blanket the horse needs depends on various factors such as outside temperature, type of husbandry, state of health, age and individual cold sensation. For the transitional period and for horses that are not clipped, blankets with a filling of 50-150 g are suitable, since these warm only slightly. If the horse stands outside in cold temperatures for a longer period, a winter blanket with 200 g should be used. A blanket from 300 g is in most cases only advisable for clipped or very cold-sensitive horses.

Which winter blanket for clipped horses?

Since a clipped horse must always be protected from the cold in cold temperatures, winter horse blankets with a filling of 200 g or more should be used. If the temperatures go further into the minus range, a blanket with 300 g or even 400 g is advisable. These keep the four-legged friend reliably warm and prevent colds and coughs.
