Trust Sweet Iron Swales Low Port
The Swales comes by Trust and has a bar bit with a low port. A Swale works like a curb bit, but is much easier to use because it only has one mouthpiece, yet it can be used with two reins. The rein on the upper ring provides a trusting, supple contact, the one on the lower ring creates the leverage. The mouthpiece is a bar which has a slight curve so that the tongue has more room and the pressure on the middle of the tongue is reduced. The recognisable blue colour is the special Sweet Iron alloy. This oxidises on contact with moisture and forms a sweet-tasting surface rust for horses. This not only makes the bit more acceptable, but also naturally stimulates saliva production. A Swales should only be used by an experienced, sensitive rider's hand.
Note: When not in use, a thin layer of orange-brown rust will develop on the mouthpiece, this can be removed with a damp cloth and is not a quality defect!
